Queen of Candesce, by Karl Schroeder
From Dot Lin of Tor Books

Since this is the second book of Virga and I've not read the first (Sun of Suns), I don't know how soon I'll get to it. But it's nice to receive it - Karl Schroeder has some of the most interesting ideas in science fiction today.

Ascendancies: The Best of Bruce Sterling
From Bill Schafer at Subterranean Press

I don't usually comment on books received from Subterranean Press, since I work for Bill, but I have to say, this book is gorgeous. From the cover art by Peter Miller to the interior design, this heavy volume impressed me even before I looked at the contents list. (I will also admit that when I looked at the copyright page I sighed and wished I had proofed it because there were four titles in bold that should have been in italics, but what can you do? {Edited to note: BS says the other BS asked for those terms to be in bold specifically - it's not a typographical error.}).

I'm sure I will enjoy this collection. Bruce Sterling is one of my favorite contemporary writers.
