a step back in time

matociquala's lj brought me to Ben Yalow's SFF.net web page. This was like a step back in time and really made me smile. The "under construction" icon! The EFF Blue Ribbon campaign! The days when we were really excited about the postal system's zip code lookup! When we were still posting and maintaining handmade lists of resources that were on the web that we thought were just plain cool! Okay, so it wasn't that long ago. And some people still do some of those things. But ah, the sense of discovery and fresh participation in the internet in the late 90s...
The feeling of building something...
So different from the current memes of interactive web presence and contribution and communication and information mining. Not entirely, but subtly so.
