Palin has one advantage over the old dogs in the current Republican Party - and that advantage is that she's not them. They are either Neo-cons or Democrat Wannabees - and the people don't like either of them. The Democrats didn't win this time because Obama was wonderful. Obama was a pig in a poke (with or without lipstick) - we knew nothing substantive about him so we could only vote AGAINST the faux-Republican McCain and for the idea that we don't LIKE things the way they are.
Gov Palin connects with the people NOT because she presents the possibility of "change" - but because she represents the possibility of returning to traditional Republican values. Balanced budgets, staying out of wars when there is no overwhelming US national interest involved, the idea that your country is something to be proud of and that it is to be an instrument for modeling upright conduct throughout the world. We're to be a beacon of freedom and "goodness." We're to model good.
Okay - sneer if you like, but I think that's her main draw - and she has over 70% of the Republican Party that likes what she stands for, even when they disagree with her on specific issues, and that even if you don't agree with her, you have a place in "her" America. She would be a leader of the people, not a fear-monger. she would lead by example, not fear, not with dictatorial powers.
Yeah - I'd very much like to see her beef up her foreign policy portfolio over the next 4 years, and to get out there so the people can see who she really is (as opposed to the caricature presented to us by the lying media). Then when she runs, either in 12 or 16, I'd vote for her. I might even volunteer for her campaign, something I haven't done for decades!!
