That's a shame is what that is.

Uhmm... yeah. While, on the one hand, I'm very happy that he lost... on the other hand, I just wanna say "Why would 46% of a population vote for someone who was just convicted on corruption charges?" (Outside of Louisiana. INSIDE Louisiana, I would just say "Oh? They convicted one?")

Say what you will about him, he did bring home the bacon. Good for Alaska, not so good for the rest of us.

I actually have mixed feelings about this. I'm glad Begich won, and he'll be a great addition to the Senate, but the train-wreck of Stevens winning, getting tossed out of the Senate and being replaced by Sarah Palin had certain charms.

I'm very, very happy with the idea of the Republican party hitching their wagon to Sarah Palin for the next four years.

I think she's going to make a great Tom Dewey.

Palin has one advantage over the old dogs in the current Republican Party - and that advantage is that she's not them. They are either Neo-cons or Democrat Wannabees - and the people don't like either of them. The Democrats didn't win this time because Obama was wonderful. Obama was a pig in a poke (with or without lipstick) - we knew nothing substantive about him so we could only vote AGAINST the faux-Republican McCain and for the idea that we don't LIKE things the way they are.

Gov Palin connects with the people NOT because she presents the possibility of "change" - but because she represents the possibility of returning to traditional Republican values. Balanced budgets, staying out of wars when there is no overwhelming US national interest involved, the idea that your country is something to be proud of and that it is to be an instrument for modeling upright conduct throughout the world. We're to be a beacon of freedom and "goodness." We're to model good.

Okay - sneer if you like, but I think that's her main draw - and she has over 70% of the Republican Party that likes what she stands for, even when they disagree with her on specific issues, and that even if you don't agree with her, you have a place in "her" America. She would be a leader of the people, not a fear-monger. she would lead by example, not fear, not with dictatorial powers.

Yeah - I'd very much like to see her beef up her foreign policy portfolio over the next 4 years, and to get out there so the people can see who she really is (as opposed to the caricature presented to us by the lying media). Then when she runs, either in 12 or 16, I'd vote for her. I might even volunteer for her campaign, something I haven't done for decades!!

Excellent. Now we just need to show Coleman the door.
