I get the impression there are a number of book editors who are rather more like producers, at least with some of their authors. They enable the books and make them happen, but don't necessarily do much artistic direction.
Maybe we need a different term for that. To distinguish them from the editors who, like, actively edit. I think it varies a little on a per-project basis, though.
