I sent them a HELP question asking how to get rid of it. I consider it HIGHLY offensive. It's like putting a religious symbol on someone's page - one that they don't subscribe to. If they want to celebrate All Hallow's Eve, fine - but don't try to force it on me.
Just another example of the complete and total CLUELESSNESS of the people who own and program this web site. I guess going to Ivy League Schools CAN be hazardous to a person's social and mental development.
I feel the same way about any and all Christmas and Easter based themes and decorations, foisted on me all over the internet. People want to celebrate those holidays, go ahead, but I shouldn't have to look at it. So if they tell you how to fix it, let me know, and maybe I can avoid being attacked by wayward holly this year.
They said, It's only there for a few more days. Then essentially said, "We like to do it so YOU can just put up with it."
My response may get me tossed - I said:
So you've decided to force your religious beliefs on the rest of us? What a bunch of loser crapheads! Come on. Grow up! You should have left this crap in grade school!
BTW - there are others complaining about it. Maybe we should all go to Google Blogs? THEY don't have this crap on there.
Well, I would like grue-y horror themed things all year 'round. Most importantly, however, I don't bail when ell jay celebrates other holidays, with themed features or writer's block questions/prompts or whatever.
(I do, actually, celebrate Samhain, both secularly and religiously, but that's sort of besides the point).
And I can barely see it. I think I only end up seeing my "home" page when I first log in.
I didn't strike or leave over any of the other ell jay controversies, and I'm very, very unlikely to move my livejournal over what amounts to a banner, even if it's one my friends find annoying or ugly. I probably won't even do so if there's a similarly holiday-themed banner at Christmas time. Blasted mistletoe. I was far more annoyed with ell jay's treatment of fan fic writers and artists last year, and I'm still here.
Here's their exact response: <<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thank you for your feedback, and I'm sorry to hear that this design has caused you difficulty. This design is a limited-time design and will only be on the site until Friday. After Friday, it will return to its normal blue. Our design team enjoys doing special layouts for holidays and while we recognize that not every design will be embraced by every user of the site, at this time staff does not plan to allow users to opt out of these holiday designs. Thanks for letting us know how you feel about it, though. I've passed your feedback on to the design team so they may be aware of it.

I have a google search bar, but I never use it because it doesn't remember my previous searches.

How do you feel about the holiday designs that google puts up on their main search page?

Um, I don't really mind them. I was being facetious. I tried to indicate that with the *g* but I think I should have been more explicit.
