Michigan voters: *Do* vote in today's primary!

Don't let yourself be discouraged by the democratic party's uppitiness!

Either: a) vote in the republican primary, preferably for someone other than McCain to keep the competition in the running
Or b) Vote Undecided!

Yes, the ONLY way to vote for a democrat other than the very few candidates who are listed on the democratic ballot is to vote undecided. write-in campaigns are not authorized!! if 15 % or more of michigan's democrats vote undecided, then if we get to send delegates to the national convention they will not be tied to voting for someone on the current ballot and can then support Obama or Edwards or whomever.

I have to wait until March. And Texas won't have Kucinick (?) on the ballot, he refused to sign the loyalty oath (i.e., support the nominated candidate) and the state courts upheld the rule.

I already did.
My first time literally voting against someone to the extent of not actually voting FOR anyone.
In this, I am not amused.

In case you can't see it, I am pointing at a sticker that says "I VOTED." ;)

Actually, it's vote 'Uncommitted.' And there's an amusing youtube vid about it. :)

I already did my thing. :)

Why vote Republican against McCain?

As long as there's no definitive leader and, therefore, likely nominee, they'll all stay in the race. The longer they all stay in the race, the more they'll dig their own graves, politically speaking.

At least, that's the theory.

[identity profile] davehogg.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
The theory was that it would keep more Republican candidates (read as Romney) viable, which means they will keep beating up on each other instead of the Democratic candidate.

The problem with keeping Mitt Romney viable is, well, we could end up with Mitt Romney as President. Is that likely? George W. Bush got elected. Twice.

I love how, on the ballot, it instructs you on how to write in a candidate. :|

what do you mean, write ins aren't authorized? I wrote in for Edwards. My vote doesn't count? Just how many ways do they have to cheat us out of our right to vote?

[identity profile] netmouse.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
um, yeah. It doesn't count. Sorry.

Obama and Edwards specifically did not authorize write-in campaigns in order to stand in unity with the party's decision not to have them on the ballot-- I've been told write-in campaigns are supposed to be for people who want to run but didn't make the ballot, not for anyone you want to vote for-- if the candidate you write in doesn't authorize counting, they don't count those votes, is my understanding.

I waited in line for three hours today and had to leave before I was able to vote because I had to get my brother to work and then go to class. This is the first time I have been unable to vote. :(

I was unable to vote primarily due to the auto show, but let me state my opinion. I will eat my (paper) hat if Michigan gets democratic delegates. Seriously. I realize it may sound cynical, but I think the state congress's position of "Oh, they don't mean it" is B.S., and they just don't give a damn because they get what they want - our declared voting preferences.

What precedent do they have for thinking the national party will give them votes when they said they wouldn't? None that I'm aware of. I have been completely beside myself in shock that I have heard next to nothing in the news in the past week about how, if all decisions made now STAND, voting for a democratic primary candidate is essentially a complete waste of time.

(Now, voting on other things at the same time, that's different, but what the hell, people.)

Well, I voted to be half represented by a delegate. Or to be represented by half a delegate. I'm not real clear on which, but at least I know that that delegate or fractional delegate thereof will be seated. I just couldn't commit myself to be uncommitted knowing that no delegate will be seated to represent my uncommittedness.

I was glad to know that both Obama and Edwards stood in solidarity with their party to disenfranchise me. It will make for some interesting conversations this summer and fall with their canvassers.
