Pineapple Plant - Blooming Pineapples!

Pinapple Plant

Years ago, Bill had this idea that we would grow pineapple plants in our house, and harvest pineapples of our very own. Grow they did, but they didn't sprout pineapples until this year (My guess, having heard you can trigger them with ripening apples, is that they started blooming after we sprays all the plants with bitter apple spray to keep the cat off them).

It's fun watching them bloom fruit. :)

Wow, that's really interesting! Maybe I should grow some pineapples myself. How did you get them? Did you plant seeds from pineapples you bought at the grocery, or did you buy some plants or seeds that were intended to grow them as houseplants, or what?

They simply planted the tops of whole pineapples after eating the fruit.

We cut off the tops of pineapples that we grew at the store, suspended them in water until they grew some roots, and then planted them.

The adult plants are very large, and the ends of the leaves are very pointy and sharp. I'm not sure I'd recommend them as a houseplant.
