Spam LJ comments

I just got three spam comments, from 193.253.55.70, 193.220.175.122, and 203.187.133.203 The spam comments (screened) were all links to poker sites that had random strings as the subjects of the posts. I've seen three other posts about LJ spam being up today. I encourage people to report (to your journal if nothing else) the IP addresses of the spammers. I don't really have time to follow up on them and I'm not really sure how to, honestly. The LJ FAQ talks about contacting someone's ISP, but it doesn't say how.

Thoughts?

I have my journal locked that only people with LJ accounts can post comments, and any comment from someone not on my Friends list is screened. You might consider doing something like that.

I have the same setup, due to my troll neighbor :P

The default for reporting spam is usually abuse@whateverdomainitcamefrom.xxx

I screened anonymous posts in the hopes I could still take them. Hopefully this spam traffic won't be so bad that I have to make people have accounts to post. I still want to fight back against the spam people if possible. One of the sites advertised was a homesite.aol.com web page. I informed aol.

I re-read the restrictions [livejournal.com profile] mabfan is using and realized mine are slightly different since I do have anonymous comments allowed (no LJ account needed) but they're screened first. My setup is that friends comments show up automatically, those not on the friends list and anonymous people get screened.

I'd originally set it up to disable the anonymous posts, but my neighbor is SO determined to harrass me that they opened an LJ account just to be able to comment, so that's when I began the screening. I'm not sure whether to be flattered at the effort, or pity their lack of anything constructive to better use their time. I think I'll go with the latter.

I'm sure those IP addresses are either forged or hacked machines.

yeah, I tried doing a traceroute and it didn't work. I'm guessing forged.

FYI - Marking a message as spam using the LJ interface does alert someone at LJ to do what they can to track down the offender. Which probably isn't much if the IPs are forged, but just thought I'd mention it.

oh, I found it - when you delete the comment the delete function gives you the option to mark it as spam.

Yep, that's it.
