Messing with Toolbar buttons in Word

Does anyone know how to change the Standard toolbar in MS word so that it doesn't have the links to the web and excel on it that I don't ever use? and how to tell MS word to always show the whole formatting toolbar, and never to take things out of the toolbar or menus because I haven't used them in a while? I'm using MS word 2000. I want to change it and have it stay that way for next time I use MS word.

I know I can look it up, just thought I'd see if anyone already knows...

I guess really I want to power to specify which buttons to and not to have in my toolbar, but I'm not sure it lets you do that or how.

UPDATED TO ADD: A co-worker pointed out that if you hold down the 'Alt' key, you can drag buttons wherever you want them, including off of the toolbar.

Right-click on a blank area of the toolbar. You can check and uncheck what you want to show. Down at the bottom, you can choose "Customize" for more options including, at least on mine, "Always show full toolbar."

I'm on Word XP, but it should be a similar process, if it's not identical.

no, when I right-click, I get a list of possible toolbars I can check or uncheck, and Customize... on the bottom, which bring up a three-tab pop-up of toolbars, commands, and options. No "Always show full toolbar" anywhere. I think that's an XP development. Maybe I should ask for Word XP on this machine - that sounds more intelligent.

I poked around in help a bit and saw I could uncheck the "Show Standard and Formatting toolbars on the same line" box, which makes the formatting bar show up below the standard toolbar, but also it turns out the "Menus show recently used commands first" check box is what is also making unused buttons diappear off my toolbars. I didn't realise toolbars are considered Menus for the purposes of that checkbox, but it turns out they are. Anyway, I want all those adaptive functions to go away, so I unchecked that box. We'll see if that works.

To customize which buttons do and don't appear on each toolbar, go to the very end of the toolbar and click on the tiny downward pointing arrow, then "add or remove buttons." If you want buttons that aren't on the standard set click customize and you'll be able to choose from a bunch of things. (As an example, on the tables toolbar, Word changed the vertical alignment button options to something stupid, so I went into customize and changed them back.)

Feel free to call me if you need more help - I know more about Word than most people who don't work for Microsoft, and probably many who do.

Yeah, I had done that "add or remove buttons" a lot, but so long as the "Menus show recently used commands first" box was checked, it didn't matter how often I'd added the font selection or centering tool or whatever button back onto my formatting toolbar, it would still drift off again.
