Nnedi Okorafor! And the Detcon1 YA Award(s)

I have not yet mentioned that Nnedi Okorafor will be joining us at Detcon1 as our Young Adult Author Special Guest. I have been a fan of her writing for years and I have also met her and her delightful daughter. I have no doubt she will be an awesome guest.

A special grant from Chicon 7 is paying for this special guest, as well as administrative costs associated with a YA Award that we will be administering.

ANYONE can nominate up to 5 works for the YA award, you just have to request a PIN number - go to http://detcon1.org/award/ for more information and to participate.

(There are actually two awards that will be given out - one for middle grade books and one for YA/Teen, but you needn't specify the category when you nominate- the Awards Administrator will figure it out.)

My favorite of Nnedi's books, btw, is Akata Witch.

I welcome recommendations of books from 2013 I should consider nominating for the award. But even more I encourage you to spread the word and nominate something yourselves!
