Bat in the house

We had a bat in the living room this evening. A rather large one, really, and we have no idea how it got there. We hadn't had the back and patio doors open much today. The glass doors on the fireplace were closed.

It was just there. Flying around in circles, mostly. Right after dinner.

It flew around faster after we came into the room. We opened the doors but it didn't seem to notice them. We tried holding up a blanket to partition the room off smaller and move it toward a door, but that didn't seem to work either. Bats also don't seem to notice when you gesture and point and go "Look, a door!" So I suggested we stop moving and let the bat calm down. The circles slowed and got lower in the room, and then it flew out the patio door and away into the dusk.

Still a mystery.

Apparently there's a wormhole between Michigan and Minnesota, as we just finished persuading a bat (that appeared out of nowhere) to depart the Manor.

It appears that A will be sleeping with Mama tonight.

Tennis rackets are also recommended for bat direction at arm's length that is not deeply damaging to the bats.

Did I ever tell you about the summer where in a fortnight I had seven instances of bat infiltration?

It's not that I hate bats; I just don't want to be around them if I can help it.

We had a bat in the house that my brother and his family were renting in Costa Rica this past February. I thought it was cool--the rest of the family, not so much. Knowing that bats will not run into people really helped.
