we made dinner for the group tonight. it ran about a half hour late getting cooked but there were lots of complements on it -- a pork loin roast with apricot/pineapple marmelade on it, with sides of green beans, roasted potatoes, and coleslaw the way grandma makes it, with raisins. since grandma was here for dinner it was fun to make a meal where lots of the kudos reflected back on her, since the loin was also her recipe.
note to self: do not believe mom when she tells me how long sliced potatos take to roast. I know how long it takes to cook them and should have faith in my own knowledge.

I quizzed her on the making of candied yams several times, and it was only this year that we finally established that the cooking temperature is about 350 and the rewarming temperature is 250. Needless to say the yams worked out much better this year than any time in the last 10 years.
I suspect she has tweaked her pumpkin pie recipe as well, but in reading the recipe to me she has not included the tweak since she never wrote it down and probably doesn't even notice that she does it...
