Support public broadcasting

From an email my sister recently sent around:

The vote to eliminate all federal funding for public broadcasting is scheduled to happen today (Friday, Feb. 18).

Public radio and television and their support organizations have organized a web site to keep you informed on the issue. If you so choose, you will be able to let lawmakers know how you feel about public broadcasting. The web site will call on you to share your views when it will be most effective to do so.
This web site is not a fundraising effort. You will not be solicited by the site.
Public broadcasting's official site for keeping up with the latest developments on this issue is http://www.170millionamericans.org. Public Broadcasting reaches 170 million Americans through programming , forums, outreach and educational projects.

Thanks so much for expressing your opinions on public broadcasting!

I am always frustrated when efforts like this arise. The nation needs a public voice, for news, education, and culture.

"The nation needs a public voice, for news, education, and culture." I'm afraid I disagree with this entirely. The voice, such as it is, is not "public" in any meaningful sense. As for culture... well, old BBC sitcoms scarcely qualify.

Are you referring to some sort of Television? I don't watch television. But I listen to public radio all the time.

Yes, I refer to TV as regarding sitcoms.

As for radio: I find it distressing at the very least to listen to, and as such I never do.

Thanks for posting the link

I was *wondering* where I could sign up and throw my $0.02 in on the subject. Dunno if I was too late (the vote might've been delayed, since the Wisconsin situation is getting so much national press), but I watch/listen to a lot of PBS and NPR (including WYCC's Worldview MhZ feed here in Chicago) and find this defunding effort especially self-serving since Jim DeMint opened his yap about it months ago after the manufactured Juan Williams brouhaha.

I changed my LJ to greyhat if you want to friend it. You are already friended there. I apologize if you got this message a few months ago and were not interested. best, Devon.
