Darrell Sweet just heard him talk at WFC great character I always-ed picked up his covers back in the day.
Janet Aulisio My favourite SF artist and she is very hard to find.
Richard Powers changed the way we do SF covers very nice man met him at my first worldcon in 1991 in Chicago.
John Picacio great guy met him a few times

John Jude Palencar is my very favorite cover artist. He's amazing, his work is amazing. I've met him several times (I had him as my artist GoH at Armadillocon in 2001), and he's funny, charming, engaging, a terrific person.

John Picacio - amazing artist, one of the nicest guys you could possibly ever meet.

Gary Gianni currently draws Prince Valiant, but he's also one of the artists who's worked on the Del Rey reissues of Robert E. Howard's works. He was one of the Guests of Honor for the 2006 World Fantasy. Very protective of his privacy, but in person, one of the nicest and most charming and charismatic people you could ever meet.

Donato Giancola - I just really like his covers, esp the ones he's done for Sharon Shinn's Twelve Houses series.

There are so many. Some have already been named.

I am particularly fond of Kelly Freas. Bob Eggleton, Vincent Di Fate are favourites. Jean-Pierre Normand is a friend and does great work. Brian Froud has my attention. I even have a funny, personal story about Phil Foglio. I could go on...

I've met them all and enjoyed their company. Some are a bit on the shy, artisty side but each can speak entertainingly and can be fun in conversation.

Obviously I'm fond of Lisa Snellings and Vincent di Fate since I picked them as Guests of Honor when I had the chance. Also picked Bob Eggleton to be one of my toastmasters. And I really wanted to work with John Picacio for several years before I managed to blackmail him into doing a couple of covers for me. Whelan, of course, and Maitz, whom we don't see enough of lately.

I've met all of them and have had good conversations with them.

I haven't met Todd Lockwood yet, but have always enjoyed his work and would love to work with him at some point.

One of my favourites is Ted Nasmith. He has come to Oxonmoot several times, and I have found that he is multi-talented: plays guitar and sings well also.

Heyla, online rodent

I am in the sad position where, for the most part, I forget the artist in favour of the material or the writer. -sheep-

Still, because I am me, I will first get the obligatory Gaiman sketch reference out of the way.

It totally blew me away that Janny Wurts did the majority if not all of the cover artwork for her books so I have a fond appreciation of her.

Someone already mentioned Don Maitz and Eggleton so I shall not return there but I am surprised that no one brought up Phil Foglio. He is very easy to talk with and even approachable.

Back a few years, I met Wendy Pini at a convention and shw was SUCH a sweet lady. Plus, I live elves and wolves. -g-

I have no favorite SF/F artists (because ... I don't) but I first read this post as "authors" and I was all excited to tell you how much fun I had meeting Neil Gaiman on my honeymoon but then I realised that I had read the post wrong, and you are the LAST PERSON I need to tell how engaging a person Neil is.

Really, we had a lovely time at the American Gods convention. Best honeymoon ever. Yay!

I'd have to say first and foremost, the amazing Dan Steffan. Brilliant design, makes it look easy. Good writer too. Engaging, on a scale of 1 to 10, definitely 11.
