Go Go Gadget Kalamazoo

[livejournal.com profile] unusualmusic reports a few positive results from yesterday's election to partly relieve the general feelings of disgust and disappointment following the veto by voters of Maine's gay marriage legislation. Among the good news: the city of Kalamazoo passed an anti-discrimination measure that includes sexual orientation.

Yep, the news from Kalamazoo is all awesome, and we have members of Kate's family largely to thank for it. Her dad & stepmom worked tirelessly on both the campaign for the anti-discrimination ordinance and the election of our dear friend Terry Kuseske -- he was actually at our wedding, though Brian probably didn't get introduced. He is Kalamazoo's first openly gay city councilman. And all around fantastic guy.

Narda shared stories about our family many times during the campaign, citing that we had to leave Kalamazoo to find a more tolerant place to raise our family. Which is completely true.

Kate's mom was involved in some Kalamazoo campaigning as well. Feeling very proud of our family right now.

oops, Terry is now a City Commissioner, not Councilman.
