Does anyone have any comments on any of these Hugo nominees? I don't watch these shows:

“The Constant” ( Lost) Carlton Cuse & Damon Lindelof, writers; Jack Bender, director (Bad Robot, ABC studios)

“Revelations” ( Battlestar Galactica) Bradley Thompson & David Weddle, writers; Michael Rymer, director (NBC Universal)

“Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead” ( Doctor Who) Steven Moffat, writer; Euros Lyn, director (BBC Wales)

“Turn Left” ( Doctor Who) Russell T. Davies, writer; Graeme Harper, director (BBC Wales)

If you know where I can find the episodes, let me know. I will decide whether or not to vote on this category based on people's comments and hopefully on seeing them.

The episode of Lost is still up on ABC.com. This might work, and if not, then maybe the main show page. I don't know about the others.

The two Doctor Who stories are on the Season 4 DVD set; the Battlestar Galactica story is on the season 4.0 DVD set. Best bet would be the library, unless there is something like a Blockbuster nearby.

I have not seen the Lost episode. The Battlestar Galactica episode was significant for the story arc but there were better episodes that year that I think should have been nominated before this one. The two Doctor Who stories are very good. Like the Battlestar Galactica episode, "Turn Left" was the more significant episode for the season's story arc. "Silence in the Library" / "Forest of the Dead" was, again, the better story, and you'll never look at shadows in quite the same way.

On the two Doctor Who stories, I agree with dave_gallaher - the two-parter is probably the better sf story, and certainly the more accessible for viewers who don't know the series. I wrote it up here (though with spoilers) and "Turn Left" here (though also with spoilers).

I have never watched a single episode of either Lost or BSG apart from the two on this list. The BSG looked very pretty but was a bit impenetrable unless you know what the Cylons are or why finding Earth is such a big deal, and I didn't. "The Constant" I thought was an excellent story, taking one of those basic sf themes of someone adrift in their own timeline and doing it very well. I wrote them both up, along with Dr Horrible, here.

I'm not a Lost fan so can't help there.

The BSG season would win hands down in my opinion if it was taken as you've commented before as a season and not individual episodes. As an arc, it was amazing with the usual blah blahs... acting/writing/storytelling/etc... but taken individually, no episode stood out as being exceptional. It may have stemmed from them raising the bar for themselves too high but I tend to think not. :33 from the first season was simply amazing and some in the 2nd and 3rd season really sucked. This season was from beginning to end excellent but none were show stoppers, they all worked very well to fill in the final story arc and advance the plot.

As for the Dr. Who episodes...neither was as good as last years nominees, especially Blink but like BSG were both good/excellent.

Turn Left is a critical plot episode which introduces a major item for the season long under-story. While Library, is one of the episodes that doesn't advance a season long plot but stands more on its own.

I enjoyed Library best of 3 nominees I've seen. It had the usual blah blahs... but also had some amazing settings. The idea of the Library while not new (central repository of all the galaxies knowledge) was done very well. It became a single planet. Seeing the doctor stunned that no one was around was a nice shot because he is generally not caught off guard. But was clinched it for me was the appearance of FUTURE companion that had already travelled with the doctor but the doctor had not yet met.

Of all the nominees, Library had all the elements of a good story that I would think of as needed for a winning piece. All of the others were critical to plot development for a season but this one stands on its own. So it comes down to what the criteria are... and since you're voting on an episode and not the season, I'd say you have to go with Library. (Season... as much as I love Dr. Who.. I'd have to go with BSG)

Thanks for your comments. It is really very hard to compare these to the singalong blog, in which I was most impressed by the music. I really hated the end of the last episode of that, and even having people go "that's Joss for you" didn't really fix that feeling.

How would you compare these to Dr. Horrible?

Very different animals...but I'll try. (comedy vs. drama)

I enjoyed Dr. Horrible because of the music, the story and the all around novelty of the idea. But although I enjoy it immensely, I wouldn't count it as great.

As overall shows, I would count both the new BSG and new Dr. Who as great. If you lean more towards soundtrack experience, then you have to go BSG because the writers spent considerable amount of time on the music. It is very well done...more along the lines of what you'd think of for major motion pictures than a television episode.

The BSG episode was pretty good, probably one of the best of the season, but I'd have to watch it again to say more than that.

I did! thank you! unfortunately the CD ended up in my trunk so I didn't listen to it on my trip, but I hope to soon. The episode I did watch and that helped greatly with voting, thanks.
