Oddly enough, I've never gone walking down in Glen Helen. But have you discovered Clifton Gorge yet? You can walk from Clifton to John Bryant State Park along the gorge and it's just beautiful. It's about two miles, and once the gorge widens out there are steps down so you can walk in the gorge beside the river.
Brian brought maps of that area too but we thought we'd wait for the ice to melt before going out there. It was pretty treacherous still the day we hiked Glen Helen. There's still a lot of the Glen yet to see, actually.
I should have said that, yes, you don't want to try going down into the gorge with ice on the ground. Though the trail at the top of the gorge is safe even with ice, since it's level and has rails, and the icicles hanging off the gorge walls are beautiful. The first quarter-mile or so of the trail from the parking lot in Clifton is handicap-accessible and snow-safe.
