Book discussion, Lloyd Alexander

In case you don't know, [livejournal.com profile] mrissa is starting a discussion of each of the three books of the Westmark trilogy (Westmark, The Kestrel, and The Beggar Queen, all by Lloyd Alexander).

We're reading the first one by March 9, the second by April 9, and the third by May 9. See here for details.

Now I need to acquire those books...

I've never read those. I picked up the Beggar Queen at one point as a kid and never got into it; I think I desperately wanted more Prydain and was disappointed that it wasn't. Perhaps I should try again.

mmm, it's also generally easier to get into a series if you start with the first book in the series rather than the third... ;)

I loved this series when I read it in Junior High; I'm looking forward to reading it again.

*blink* *blink*

But! But Westmark is brilliant! I actually liked them better than Prydain, but then I wasn't hankering after Prydain in particular when I read them. Mickle rocks. Theo rocks. Florian is... well, he's fan-bait, really.

I liked Westmark better too!

... sounds like perhaps you should join our discussion... :)

I think I shall have to do that, yes. *grins*

Please do!

(People do not have to be individually invited by me. But I thought that maybe since I was seeing this exchange in the first place, you might feel even more welcome if the person hosting it said so explicitly.)

Ah, lovely, thank you! I've already recruited one of my friends, too. Good discussion is always a wonderful thing.

i, kenllama, do solemnly swear to give it another shot, 20-some years later, and to start with the first book this time as per netmouse's suggestion. actually, i'd never realized until this post that BQ was the third book. huh.

(you know, i still want more Prydain... I was very disappointed to find that it really bears very little resemblance to Welsh mythology, mostly because reading the Mabinogion never satisfied my craving for more Prydain!)

If you don't end up finishing Westmark, discussion of why not would also be welcome. I'm Just Sayin'.
