Follow-up re: LJ not threading (Friends page color-supporting styles)

The LJ support folks were unable to reproduce my problem, but they did point out that one of the FAQ pages addresses the question of which layout styles offer which features, which (once you drill down) provides a list of The styles that support Friend Colors on your Friends Page.

Some people commented they also missed that feature, so I thought I'd let you know.

I've never really used the colours. What do people use them for?

I don't know about everybody, but for me it helps me scan my friends page on days when I'm way too busy to actually read it all. I don't have everybody's colors memorized, but B&K are deep purple and Neil is black and Nathan is deep green and Caro is bright, bright green, and this helps me not miss the posts from the people who are key people in my life who live far away, mixed in as they are with posts from people who are merely neat and interesting, and people who live close enough that I'll probably hear important news even if I didn't see it posted.

I've found that it makes scanning my friends page a lot faster. After a while, you know the color combinations faster than you recognize the icon or read the name.

I also tend to give people color combinations that mean something to me - being a sportswriter, that's often the colors of a team that plays near them or the college they attended. Sometimes, though, it is just whatever feels right.
