While it does take a certain type of courage to be that thick-headed and yet go out into the public eye and try to get away with it anyway on a national scale, that is not the intended take away from this post.
The title is a quote from a doctor (as depicted in a documentary; I don't know if it's an historical quote) after politicians try to get a suffragette put away for insanity for her attempts to get women the vote, and the doctor refuses. Well into the ... I want to say 60s or 70s women were being committed by people who had power over them (mostly men) for resisting the role that was being imposed upon them, and speaking out against it.
