What are you covering as "social dance"? I had been thinking of something potentially similar as part of my GOHship at Confusion, so was wondering what you were covering, and if it overlaps or otherwise is similar, whether I might end up recruiting you as my "assisted by" person.

What we cover depends on the people who come, and what they are able to pick up. I generally start with a warm up walk-dance around in a circle and talking about basic motion and theories of dance, things about moving hips and knees and getting yoru arms up above your head -- notes about club dancing and sharing the dance floor, how to avoid hitting people accidentally as well as how to hit on people without being scary stalker dance floor person. If people are grooving to it we might teach a basic partner step or two, plus how to dip someone, and I could see doing waltzing or swing in the last 20 minutes. We take questions. that sort of thing.

I would be delighted to be your "assisted by" person!

Ok, that sounds cool, too -- but not what I was thinking. I was thinking "social dance" the way a ballroom instructor might use it, rather than the more extensive how to dance socially at a traditional con dance.

I was thinking to maybe run through a basic swing lesson, single-step and triple-step swing, under-arm turns, maybe a bit more than that.

I'll get back in touch once I've got a better handle on what I'm doing as GOH, probably next year sometime. Thanks.
