This is just one of many reasons I recognize no law but my own and go out of my way to screw up things within the government whenever I can. If they'd stay out of my life, I'd stay out of theirs.

I really shouldn't be surprised that you are acquainted with Ofer. You're just as well connected as I am, if not better... *le sigh*

It's not a competition, you know...

I don't actually know him, except as a member of the network of [livejournal.com profile] dr_memory and [livejournal.com profile] yix.

Ooooo it's a competition? Can I get in? Of course my circle is entirely different but much stranger... muhahaha... :)

Score one for the side of good! :-) And oral sex. Definitely a good day. Maybe now the Texans will relax a little bit? ;-)

Ireland is still one of the most sexually repressive countries going - last time I looked, all intercourse except between a married couple is illegal.

Contraception was illegal until sometime in the mid-70's.

My family moved there in '68, I stayed in England. Up until legalisation, I used to smuggle a few hundred contraceptives in several times a year and made a reasonable profit selling them on...

Importation by a foreign visitor was legal (or at least not prosecuted) so long as they were for personal use only.....

Even after legalisation, a number of barriers were in the way - chemists (ie pharmacies) held no stock - often under pressure from local churchmen.

At one stage, they were only available by prescription - which would only be available to married couples, to comply with the above-mentioned law.

This is all quite a long time ago - I suspect the EU has intervened on many or all of these laws.

In a way, I was sorry to hear of the de-criminalisation - I lost all those free holidays and the extra income....

Huzzah! I love to see laws like this go down.

And i'm so not making the moral imperative follow-up joke to that statement right now.

Watch me not make it.

Admire my restraint.
