Perspectives on Finding Love

1. From Alice Hoffman, in Local Girls:
Jill told me that when you're really in love, you know right away. I'm not exactly sure how this happens. Is it like a flash of lightning? Like an angel tapping you on the shoulder? Or is it similar to choosing a puppy? You think you're picking the cutest one, but really you wind up going home with the one who keeps insisting on climbing into your lap. That's how we got our dog, Revolver. We thought he was so crazy about us, but it turned out that Labrador retrievers adore everyone. Well, maybe that's what love is, a state of mind ready to grace anyone willing to accept it. Anyone who cares.

3. Hoffman again:
Just like Jill, she insists that she'll know when she meets the right man. But unlike Jill, she tells me exactly what love's evidence is. I'll just want to kiss him till I die. To me, this doesn't sound like something to hope for, but people seem to hope for it all the same.

(I know I do)

I think there's something in the air, or planets aligning just so, or something. We've (husband Ry and I) been very introspective and honest with ourselves about love lately. Almost in a soul-searching but intellectual fashion.

Beats discussing current events, most days. :)

There's a lot of that going around. Too bad some souls don't want to be searched.

yes, and lately the 'truthiness' of it all has dragged us kicking and screaming. sometimes, revelation is not an enjoyable process.

I have found that there's such a thing as Lust at first sight, but that love takes a while longer. Not that one doesn't lead to the other, mind you. There is a third component: Can you stand to live together?

So what you need, really, is a partner you have sufficient lust for, than you respect and fall in love with, that you can work out a long-term relationship with. And then, it's still a day-to-day-to-week proposition, because some weeks are a lot harder than others.

That Labradors love everyone is one of those traits that endear them to me.

In a way they are the Canadian National Dog.

Sometimes the love you find is not the kind of love you were looking for.

"Baby you ain't seen nothin yet"

Nice Icon by the way.

This reminds me its time to do some more relationship posts myself.

Ah, if only both people could hear and see the choir of angels....

"I'll just want to kiss him till I die."

She wants Ted Bundy? ;)

Not that I've got loads of experience:

but love is like Nirvana. It's not so much about where you're at as where you're headed.

I find it funny that I posted the same comic before I even caught up to your post. High-larious.

I've had that instantaneous love, and I've had had that super-intense-omgeee love, and I've had that gradually developing love (which I thought didn't exist for the longest time).

At the moment, I'm hard-pressed to analyze any of it objectively.

There are people we are physically attracted to.

There are people whose company we enjoy.

There are people who are physically attracted to us, and who enjoy our company.

Ultimately, though, you love those whom you serve. You love best those whom you serve most.

This won't help you find someone to love, but it might just help you keep them.

I'm surprised by the things you post, and how you post them. I'm also hoping for a cut, not because I don't find it funny, but because it's so wide it throws off my friends page. ;)

*hugs*

I really don't know what to make of that. I mean, I hope that's not a bad thing...

(?)

Not a bad thing. :)

Although I was hoping for an lj-cut because of the comic... :)
