In case you didn't see this: Virgin America airlines has taken first flight

Boing Boing's Xeni Jardin posted a description of the interior design and flight experience of riding the virgin flight of Virgin America airlines, a brand new airline that's apparently doing some things right, including offering IM between seats, google maps and other internet services, and power plugs for every (comfy) seat.

Too bad they don't fly to DTW.

That was one of the first things I checked when I read about the (pardon the pun) virgin flight. Only four airports or so, if I remember correctly. :(

yeah, but keep in mind you can fly to DC in about an hour for less than $100 round-trip from DTW, and from there you'll be able to take Virgin America Airlines to San Francisco. If you want to try it out, I mean.

:( A direct flight from DTW to SFO is still cheaper.

But it was a great idea. :) Depending on how life goes one day I may still try it just for the novelty idea.

Airline Seat Power

American Airlines has had power in coach for years. It's not every seat, but all you have to do is request power when you select your seat.

Virgin has it for 2/3 of the seats, reachable from every seat. AA has it reachable from something like 1/2 the coach seats, and not enough for all of those. Also, I believe Virgin has 120VAC, which means a few cube taps provide outlets for everybody.

"(1) Most comfortable coach I've experienced on any domestic carrier. Roomy, well-designed seats, nice leg room, seats sit at a pitch that maximizes stretch space."

Richard Branson - I think I love you!

I wonder if the rows are separated enough that I can actually use my notebook computer when the guy in front of me reclines his seat?
