Top Ten Files Accessed on Netmouse.com

I have a website over at Netmouse.com, hosted on GoDaddy. GoDaddy is cheap, but there are a number of things I find frustrating about it so I don't recommend it as a host. (I don't know a better one, I'm just not that happy with this one). Anyway, a discussion of hosting and web states elsewhere caused me to take a look at my referral and file access statistics.

My main home page and the image on that page were the most requested files, but I didn't find that particularly interesting, so I've eliminated it from the top ten list, as well as the page about me that is the only link off that front page. Other pages are more likely to be accessed through referrals or targeted browsing.

Ten Most Often Accessed files on Netmouse.com, # of requests since March 3

  1. Notes on Neil-Handling (Neil Gaiman links to it from time to time, which always causes a huge peak in my web traffic, no surprise. I'm pleased to have created a reference people find useful - I get a thank you note about it from time to time, which is very nice.) 4,826

  2. Our Best Man's Toast from our wedding (this has been high for years, both due to searches and links on wedding sites) 3,175

  3. A page of links to pictures, mostly from our wedding and our honeymoon in Cozumel 2,317

  4. My master's thesis: Effective Information Display and Interface Design for Decomposition-based Quantitative Electromyography (I don't know what people are finding it useful for, if anything, but I'm pleased it's being looked at) 2,062

  5. Sarah's and my 1996 Roadtrip around the USA 1,998 (and the page of photos from it 1,039)

  6. Songs about Rainbows (song lyrics get lots of hits, including some that were found this month through searches for my highschool classmate (and songwriter) Erin Kamler -see two of her songs here) 1,717

  7. The (very basic) page I made for The Caravan Shop, where I used to work. 1,530

  8. My thoughts on how I do Jigsaw Puzzles 1,263

  9. A picture of the Hotel Roanoke, in VA (??? I have no idea why, here) 1,139

  10. This picture of two swans made out of towels from our honeymoon

I know you are already unhappy with GoDaddy, but another reason to not recommend it is the politics of the owner, who has defended Guantanamo torture, among other things...

do you use godaddy for just registering your domain name or do you also use them for hosting your web site along with registering your domain? i now of a good registar that is pretty cheap(gkg.net). i registered my 10 or so domains. if you are looking for hosting, i might be able to give you a good deal on web site hosting on our server.

1and1.com has been ok for a customer of mine. 3.99/mo for good disk and transfer. no detailed statistics, but they give you access to the raw access logs for your site.

another friend has siteground.com, more of both for 5.99/mo.
