Guitar and snow

I had a nice evening guitar practice with Kathy last night. I took over Rise up Singing and we found a few songs in it that we each know, and a couple we both know. :)

Still plenty of the book we didn't get to, yet.
(It's a nice songbook for lyrics, and we figured out the notation for chords, but it doesn't give the melody for anything except a few rounds, so it's not much help on songs where you don't know the tune already.)

We are starting to face up to the fact that we'll have to play a song with an F chord in it sooner or later, but for now we've mostly been avoiding them.

Shoveled the walk before dinner and then again when I got back from Kathy's. It's still snowing so I expect to shovel some more when I get home from work today. Welcome to winter. :)

Yes! I finally found someone for whom the F chord is as irritating to play as it is for me. I will, occasionally, submit to playing a modified F (Umm, Fmaj7 I believe... xx3210 for tab players), but aside from that, DOOM on the F chord in general. :)

I'm OK with the F chord as long as I don't have to get to it too quickly. :-) It most commonly seems to get paired with C chords, so I've been practicing that transation, F to C to F. Slowly it improves. But I still have no sense of timing.

The difficult bit for me, in the Rise Up Singing songbook, is when we were trying to pair the words with the chords, and I didn't know the words well enough, so I was looking at chords, fingers, AND lyrics. Too many places I need to put my eyes!

Yeah, I certainly do much better when I know the tune well enough that I don't have to look at the lyrics... although, my own innate lack of rhythm (had to respell that about 12 times) makes singing along while I play ... umm... interesting, to say the least.
