Is it just me?

So, I'm staying at the same hotel for five days. Every day they change out the towels and the sheets. Every day I have to remember to move a washcloth, which they put on the sink around the corner from the shower, into the shower so I can reach it, and lay out the bathmat. Every night I have to pull the sheets out of their tight tucking-in so my toes are comfortable. Am I the only one who wishes they would just leave these things where I put them until I check out?

Some hotels have a card that you can put out requesting that they not change the towels and sheets. (Though they'd still make the bed.)

I tried leaving a note asking them to leave the towels and sheets where they were. They hung the new ones over the back of a chair and left me my old towels and linen -- But put it all back where it started and made the bed, so I saw little advantage in that, other than saving the environment a bit of cleaning for a day.

If you put out the "Please Do Not Disturb" sign on your door when you leave, they won't come in and do that stuff while you're gone.

I thought of that, but then they also don't empty the trash. I wanted that service and no other. Hmm. I guess I could have tried saying *that* in a note, but I doubt it would work.

oh, and replacing the mugs I use to make oatmeal with clean ones. I want them to do that too. I suppose I could have put those in the hall too. too late to experiment, I guess. I'm checking out today. I should have complained two days ago and gotten this input. :)

You're not the only one. But it's much easier for the hotel to have a standard system. It's easier on the maids, and it's easier on the people who check up on the maids.

And what hotel is it? All the hotels I stay at now only change the sheets if you ask. It used to be change-sheets-every-day. Then for a while it was change-sheets-every-day-unless-you-put-this-card-on-the-bed. Then, the default switched, and now the most common is don't-change-sheets-unless-you-put-this-card-on-the-bed.

The service that freaks me more than anything has been the "turn down" service that the few fancy hotels I've stayed in has had. People just come into your room without (much) notice.

Your notes may not do a lot of good depending on where you're at. They may simply be in the wrong language.

You might already know, but many hotels will allow you to opt not to have your linen changed with direct request.

Yeah, but even when they don't change your linen, they generally re-make the bed with the current linen.

It varies from hotel to hotel. And, quite possibly from maid to maid within a hotel. I find generally they come in and reset the room to "standard" whatever that may be. But, occasionally, I've found places that, if I've thrown the comforter/cover off the bed a couple times will leave it piled in a neat fold pile somewhere, rather than rebuild it, and will leave other re-arrangements as well.

Also, washcloths are often left over the shower curtain -- but I think that is more often because they're the same colour and don't get noticed, rather than being a conscious choice on their part.

I've experienced this as well, as recently as last weekend in Montreal. It drives me crazy, because I never think to put it in the shower before I get in. At home, I keep mine in the same place all the time, hanging on the rod at the end of the shower stall.
