In case you're wondering..
No, I didn't make it in the precinct delegate election. I got 49 or so write-in votes and the other guy got more. He got 125. There were a couple positions on the ballot that were highly contested, so there was a high voter turnout in the precinct. Dennis, who was campaigning with me, got 160 votes. I'll still be going to the state convention, but just as a party member.
After the election I went home and had dinner and watched the "shindig" episode of Firefly. Chuck called and encouraged me to go to Tios. I went there after a brief stop at the Arbor Brewing Co. to congratulate Rebekah Warren, who won in the primary so she will go on to run for state representative. Other (uncontested) candidates John Dingell & Liz Brater also stopped by, and Alma Wheeler Smith was there too. The energy was high and I was glad that I went, especially because I ran into my friend Mary, who is up for car-pooling to the state convention.
Tios was also a good place to be. Visited with Tracy and Neil and Elizabeth and Larry and Marshall and a little with Alex, and there were two others whose names I am blanking on at the moment. I came close to being helpful to Tracy in terms of studying - she had her index cards out. I shall have to find a better moment and pounce and truly help her study. Perhaps we can make a game of it. Ars Medicinae. or Ars Pharmaceuticae?
Anyway. It was a beautiful day and a lovely evening and I met many interesting people including half of Chris Easthope's family, who stopped by the polling place to campaign (Chris is resident in my precinct). I am very pleased with who got selected in the primary today, and as for me and being precinct delegate, well, I will likely try again next year.

1) You weren't on the ballot,
2) I think the only time people ever heard your name was the evening before the poll when we went to their house and when you were at the polling station the night before, and
3) You STILL got a huge percentage of the votes.
You got all that through word of mouth and asking people to remember to write you in. That's hard for many. Next year if you're on the ballot, I think you'll be very successful. You might even want to make a $100 investment and an evening or two and flyer the entire 5th Ward. (Who knows, maybe you'll get some non-standard voters.) I'd be up for going door-to-door again if you're interested.
All said and done, I'm glad you attemped it. Most people in the world won't ever go that far.
