Update: minor whiplash

so, I went to the chiropractor this morning. Breathing is much easier now. He said that with the Buffy dance move where she throws her head back (which I know is how this started) I effectively gave myself whiplash and pinched a nerve in my spine. This nerve controls the muscle that's in spasm next to my left shoulder blade. I'm going to take it easy for a couple days and see him again on Wednesday. He doesn't think I'll be 100% for Friday, but I should be able to perform.

In the meantime he wants me to ice it and stuff. And try to get back off the ibuprofen.

It really had already settled down a lot over the course of the day Sunday, though riding in the car to grandma's was a little tough on it. I took my hot pack and took a nap at grandma's with that on and that helped.

Th blueberry pie was nice too. :)

Ouch. Well, I knew it was a mess in there, and I'm glad it's at least something "minor." What is the treatment for whiplash?

well, he adjusted my whole system very carefully (hips, lower back, mid and upper back, neck), and applied some point pressure on the spasming parts, not unlike what you did, and he gave me some biofreeze, which is a cooling gel, and recommended icing it. With the spine adjusted I'm pretty sure the nerve isn't pinched any more, so the trick is just to get the muscle settled down and keep the swelling down, and release the rest of the body, which is all tensed up from protecting the injury. He said my spine was way pulled over to that left side, which is so tight. And that messes everything up. so I'll go back in a couple days for more adjustment.

I'm very glad the pinch is now corrected. If I knew more about bone manipulation, I would have been better able to help. I know soft tissue very well, but not the spine.

I hope you're able to relax over the next several days, letting your back relax and let those muscles settle down. I'll nag you in a couple of days to get a few professional massages scheduled.

My back is bugging me today too -- not nearly as badly, just a "slept on it weird" kinda thing, but I sympathize anyway. It's very frustrating!

Because it looks like I will be seeing this dance of yours on Friday. :-D I've been silently bemoaning missing this Con, and now my g/f (a kind of geek in training) is SERIOUSLY hot-to-trot to go. I'm pretty sure it's the Buffy: The Musical panel that sold her on it, too. :-D

(P.S. OOOOH! Do you still need a horned demon extra?! Because I will be there now! And my girlfriend would bloody DIE! Especially if I didn't tell her until we went in!!!)
