getting caught up

I just got caught up updating [livejournal.com profile] murphyw's journal with notes from phone calls and the journal entry he last sent home and stuff.

As for me, I came home really up from my trip to Texas. It was wonderful to hang with [livejournal.com profile] eposia and [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust for a relaxing weekend, and the con was fun too. As to the former it was the first time I'd met [livejournal.com profile] eposia in the flesh - she is even more of a delight in person than she is online and I hope the connection we've made there lasts a long time.

I also got in a nice smoffing lunch with Kim Kofmel and Mark and their friend Shai - slabs of ribs to eat, lots of smoffing to keep our mouths busy the rest of the time. And more ribs in the airport on the way home!

I was really proud of myself for staying healthy and rested all weekend, then came home for a couple days and this morning could tell I am starting to fight a cold. Was tempted to just stay in bed, but I had a free pilates lesson to cash in on, and so went to a 9 am appointment to learn how to breathe the pilates way and what sort of flying you can do on a Reformer.

Work was tiring but I went out for a nice lunch with some colleagues and had Chicen Lemon Rice soup, which I love, and I came home a touch early (for me). Laura cooked dinner while I typed up Bill's journal, and I've just gotten caught up on that and am retiring to my room.

Oh, but first, my geek note of the day. As a treat for myself I stopped on the way home to get The Chicago Manual of Style. I am now going to go curl up in bed with it.

Night!

Chicago Manual of Style is a great book. Have you also heard of Garner's American Usage? I think you might like that one as well.

In the introduction and acknowledgements to the 15th edition of the Manual of Style, they mention that Bryan A. Garner, author of the Dictionary of Modern American Usage (whose second edition is titled Garner's Modern American Usage actually wrote a chapter of the 15th edition of the Manual of Style and also served on the Advisory Board for the book. I shall read his chapter and, if I like it, check out the book.

Thanks for the reference!

I also just added Words into Type to my Amazon Wishlist (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/1738PWYQ6PJ14), to get soon.

I've got a copy of Words into Type, third edition, on my shelf at work, along with Garner's and Chicago 14th. Fascinating book.
