now opening at the State Theater: Young Adam

Anyone want to go? If so, what day?

YOUNG ADAM
Joe (Ewan McGregor), a transient, finds work on a barge
owned by Ella (Tilda Swinton). One afternoon, her husband
Leslie (Peter Mullan) and Joe discover a young woman's
(Emily Mortimer) corpse floating in the canal. After the
police investigate and arrest a suspect, we learn of Joe's
relationship with the deceased. Meanwhile, an implicit
attraction develops between Joe and Ella and claustrophobic
tensions arise among the three in the confines of the barge.
Based on Scottish writer Alexander Trocchi's 1954 novel;
directed by David Mackenzie. Rated NC-17.
WHAT CRITICS SAY:
"Emily Mortimer ... McGregor, and especially Swinton are as
frank and fearless with their NC-17 naked bodies as
Mackenzie is uncompromised in conveying Trocchi's sulfurous
purview on labor and lust to the screen."
-- Jessica Winter, VILLAGE VOICE
"It's a movie drama with a surface so bleak and an interior
so hot with eroticism that it twists your guts to watch it."
-- Michael Wilmington, CHICAGO TRIBUNE
"This is an almost Dostoyevskian study of a man brooding upon
evil until it paralyzes him."
-- Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES

*grin*

so did you read my
review of Velvet Goldmine
(http://www.livejournal.com/users/netmouse/95139.html#cutid1)?

Anytime Sunday is good for me.

I see I should have started off by saying that Bill and I are in Chicago for this coming (memorial day) weekend. Anytime after that will be better. (sorry)

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!

I'm in Brookfield this coming weekend, because that's where I live. Alas, I've been out of town enough that I'm probably not going to have huge gobs of time to socialize.

Sure. I'm always up for NC-17 fare.

How about Wednesday at 7pm?

[identity profile] bjorng.livejournal.com 2004-05-27 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, that'd be fun! Who doesn't like Dostoyevskian brooding? :) Most days work for me, as long as I know ahead of time a day or two.

and I was thinking we could probably get together, but Bill's uncle died on Thursday and now we have a wake Monday and a funeral Tuesday and relatives coming in to Chicago Sunday, so probably can't. Some other time though, and soon.

It only took about 35-40 minutes to get back home, the way I went. Again, nice to get to see you two.

yes, wednesday at 7. I plan to be there. I get off work at 6 and will probably grab a bite downtown before the movie. give me a call at work (668-6047) if you want to grab dinner together too. something fast, not fancy.
