Non-LJ blogs

So I'm pretty sure the kiddo nuked my "Blogs" bookmarks folder. Luckily my history still exists, so typing out anything I remember of the name of the blog, the blog's author, or the url is helping me reconstruct part of it. But anyway, if you have a blog offsite or a blog you really like that you think I should read, or know of a non-lj blog of a mutual friend of ours, please let me know.

I know in this day and age I should have all of this aggregated into a big newsreader, but I don't. I read different things different days.

Anyway, could use your help. thanks.

If you're using Firefox, you "should" have a bookmarks backup folder in your firefox profile (I can't recall your computer system preferences).

Just a crazy idea...what happens if you type words like "blog", "weblog" or "journal" into the URL bar?

In Firefox, you can Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks [Ctl-Shift-B], put something in the search box at the top right and search, and then select Search in: History at the top left of the results list.
Ctl-click on what you want, Open All in Tabs, and bookmark the whole shebang over again [Ctl-Shift-D] into a new folder in Bookmarks.

I'm using Chrome, but thanks.

Look in your chrome profile folder.. there should be a bookmarks.bak (or very close to that) file. Check the date on that. If it's older than since the kid nuked your bookmarks, you're in luck.

If you're on windows 7, the folder is in
users\*your username*\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

(or something similar)

I wish that everyone read Bruce Schneier's blog. You can either skip or read the technical posts about cryptography, depending on your predilection for such stuff, but if that's not your interest don't let the presence of those occasional posts dissuade you from reading the rest of what he covers.

Bruce is a friend of mine, so I read his articles when he links to them from LJ. I will add his blog to my folder that I dip into when I have more time, though.
