On the ride home from work
Someone lost a cat today;
I saw it by the side of the road.
Still and black and white it lay,
Abed in grass unmowed.
Now and then in black and white;
But time for the cat came all before.
Black and white like space and light;
Now and then but nevermore.
Many folks lost cats today,
Odds being what they are.
But this one struck me where it lay
As I passed by in my car.
