I always have a strange reaction to thinking of Rush. When I was a sophomore at boarding school, I had a crush on one particular boy, and one day, he brought me into his room to show me his poetry, trying to impress me, I guess. He handed me a handwritten sheet of paper. I read the poem, and I remember it as my first instance of, "Oh crap, this is . . . crap. But I can't hurt his feelings? How do I tell him?" so I read it carefully, and thought, and finally came up with responses like, "Oh, this is interesting imagery, the way you mentioned this here." And he liked my response, and that was that. Then a handful of weeks later, I came over to his room for some random reason and we chatted, and I realized I recognized the lyrics to the music playing in the background, which is how I learned that the poem he was trying to impress me with was actually lyrics to a new Rush song.
