Thanks Mom Bone Marrow Donor Drive

Consider going to the National marrow donor program to join the Mother's day bone marrow donor drive going on through May 19th.

Generally to become a bone marrow donor it costs a fee that covers the cost of the test kit used to type you for donation. During this drive registration is free for the first 10,000 people to register online and the first 36,000 people who register in person.

They have an especially dramatic shortage of minority bone marrow donors. Please spread the word.

Turns out I don't qualify to donate - deferred due to chronic back and neck problems. But you may be able to.

They say my BMI is too high and donating may put me at risk.

Yah.

Right. They can accurately determine my risk from my height & weight.

Funny, my BMI is not too high for me to kick butt at swordclass.

I've been waiting to become a volunteer, and was holding off only because of the cost of the test. Oh well..

I'm curious. Where did you learn about this push for bone marrow registration? (How small a world is it?)

MY BMI is "too high" too, I'm ineligible.

That's total crap, other than my IBS, I am the healthiest person in my family.

It generally feels like a pretty small world, but anyway I learned of it from [livejournal.com profile] willshetterly. You?

Been registered for years, C also. Good that they're figuring out more ways to make it easy for more people.

Mostly, through http://kino-kid.livejournal.com/ and http://www.heal-emru.com/. I have known Kino_kid and her brother Emru for about twenty years. It's all been a bit of a shock.
