Mothers & Other Monsters, a collection by Maureen F. McHugh. From Gavin Grant at Small Beer Press.

Since I was traveling today I have already read most of this collection, which is as emotionally complex (read: sometimes difficult) and thought-provoking as I have come to expect from McHugh.

Someone passed that to me a while back and I had to give it right back after attempting to read 3 or 4 of the stories. They're so "real" that they're a little too close to home, if ya know what I mean.

Very well crafted stories though.

It starts off with some of the hardest ones. If you like I can point out a couple of the less difficult ones that come later in the book and loan it to you to give them a try.

That would be great. The stories I read (or attempted to) were at the very start of the book, so if there are less traumatic ones later on I would like to give it another chance.
