Security theater != security

Congrats to my friend Bruce Schneier for a lovely write up in the Minneapolis City Pages. If you're happy to be able to carry lighters on planes again, thank him.

If you've never seen Bruce talking about security, follow that link to see a video interview with him on his company website.

You can also listen to his panel at Penguicon 5.0 entitled Security and Psychology (Part 1 | Part 2 - large files, but worth it).

I see that the government expert who disagrees with Bruce is named Clark Kent Ervin. I guess we know Superasshole's secret identity.

I read that article and I'm glad to know that there have been positive results. :) I subscribe to his crypto-gram newsletter and it's always interesting. I'm still trying to make it through his paper on the psychological concept of security, it's on my desk at work.

When I realized *that* is who the guy trying to get into Frank's laptop in the free hugs suite at Penguicon when the music stopped playing, I was basically in awe. ;)

His blog is also fascinating, and a good read. :)

I'm kind of bummed that I missed his panels at Penguicon... most of mine were scheduled at the same time as mine. Since I had so much fun being a writer full-time for a weekend, I can't say that I'm too disappointed.

Sounds like a sketch idea or have you already done one or two?
