Into the woods (and making more of them)

On Sunday, August 26th, our neighborhood is having a volunteer Stewardship Day at Eberwhite Woods. (That icon is a picture of me walking through the woods midwinter- they're right behind my house.)

All are welcome to join in, 1-4 pm, for a day of posting signs and pulling up invasive plants. The group meets in the Eberwhite Elementary school parking lot - dress for outdoor work including long pants and closed-toe shoes. The city of Ann Arbor Natural Area Preservation division provides gloves and tools. For more information, call 734-996-3266 or email nap@a2gov.org.

While I'm on the topic of woods, a local non-profit has a 3-year project to replace the trees lost to the Emerald Ash Borer infestation. The city's tree replanting strategy is posted at www.a2gov.org/trees and you can contact Global ReLeaf of Michigan at 800-642-7353 or www.globalreleaf.org if you'd like to volunteer to help. You can join or sponsor a neighborhood Tree Team to help with replanting.

Do note that if you own property in the city you can also get a tax deduction of up to $1000 for hiring a nursery to plant a street tree on your own property.
