Frances E. Allen: Turing Award lecture video now online

Frances Allen
As a follow-up to my February post about Frances E. Allen's being the first woman to win the Turing Award, I'd like to point out that her Turing Award Lecture is available at

http://beta.acm.org/news/featured/turing-2006-lecture-webstream

According to the ACM's description of it, the presentation challenges software systems designers to bring software capabilities up to the capabilities of computer hardware, which they have fallen behind. (She proposes solutions also.) Allen won the Turing Award for “pioneering contributions to the theory and practice of optimizing compiler techniques that laid the foundation for modern optimizing compilers and automatic parallel execution.”
