speaking of being tired

Turns out I accidentally bought a little tube of cinnamon toothpaste. Which is a little freaky, but ok.

Cinnamon would probably be ok -- I accidentally got bubblegum flavour once, and that just did NOT work for me.

I'm pretty used to oddly flavored toothpaste (by conventional standards) because I'm allergic to the SLS found in 99% of the toothpastes out there, and toothpastes without SLS tend to not have strong super-sweet flavors, so I now find the mint smell and the artificially sweet tastes of most toothpastes rather disgusting.

It's all what you're used to.

Once I found my mind relating it to the flavor of gum, I was just fine with it.

Cinnamon Toothpaste

There are worse flavors.

What kind(s) of toothpaste do you use?

I've recently discovered the joys of using SLS-free shampoos, and if SLS is bad for my hair, I assume it's also bad for my teeth.

Eww? I don't even like cinnamon gum... that's just too much cinnamon...

SLS didn't affect my teeth that I could tell. It gives me canker sores. It's a pretty-well documented effect. Do a google search of "toothpaste sls" and sites talking about SLS's role in causing mouth ulcers will be the top search results.

I was using Weleda toothpastes for several years, but I seem to have developed a reaction to it. (I wonder if they changed their formula.) I buy whatever I can find that doesn't have SLS in it. I can't recall my current brand -- it's the first time I've used it. This involves going to a health food store (Whole Foods works) and reading the ingredient list of every brand out there. You can also find a ton of SLS-free toothpastes sold through the web.

These are the SLS variants: sodium dodecyl sulfate, Dodecyl sodium sulfate, Lauryl Sodium Sulfate, Sodium Laurylsulfate, Sulfuric acid monododecyl ester sodium salt

I get canker sores quite frequently; in fact, I have one right now! I'll definitely look into an SLS-free toothpaste. Thank you for the suggestions and information.

Good luck! My previous dentist (now retired) just happened to read a research article many years ago, when the SLS link to mouth ulcers was a new discovery. I switched toothpastes and was soooo happy! You'll need to look for the more obscure brands. The popular "health" toothpastes, like Tom's of Maine, all have SLS.

I'm going to look for SLS-free shampoos. The inside of the mouth may be more sensitive than the scalp (just a guess), but they are both permeable.

I'd love cinnamon toothpaste. I always request the cinnamon polish when I visit the dental hygienist, if they have it. It's apparently popular since they're often out.

I don't think I've seen the paste around here. Gel, yes, but I have an aversion to the sliminess (to me) of gel so I stick to paste in whatever flavor I can find.

Here is a list of brand of SLS-free shampoos. I'm currently using J/A/S/O/N's 84% Aloe shampoo, and I love it.

oh, yeah, this is actually a gel.

Thanks! I just looked at my toothpastes, and right now I'm using JASON "Powerhouse". I'm going to research soaps too. Liquid hand/body soaps and facial soaps have SLS or its variants -- at least the ones in my house do.

I've been using Crest's Whitening Expressions cinnamon flavour for a while now, and I rather like it. I can't (and don't want to) imagine what the lemon flavour tastes like. Ick.
