A hard SF revelation set in a Caribbean diaspora - nanotech AI has always assisted and tutored a young girl until her father's crime takes them both off-planet to a radically different frontier existence where the living is hard and birdlike aliens will become her new allies. A stirring and provocative poetic tale of a young woman's fighting her way to free adulthood and out of shadows of her father's wrongness.

Despite some over-the-top gosh-wow, this is not a bad article on the current state of heads-up displays on wearable glasses and contact lenses by Anne Eisenberg over at the NYT.

When you see something like this onsale at Target, well. that's not a heads-up display, but it is video in glasses, which is still cool, though this is more stylish.

I am now a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers. They sent me a certificate and everything; I just got it in the mail. ASNE was established in 1888. I'm feeling rather honorable and historic at this particular moment, I must say.

I said I would post when skysinger got his pictures up from Penguicon. And here I am, keeping promises. Hope you don't assume a precedent from this or anything...

Shown in the current picture are myself and Nancy, Nancy sporting an absolutely fabulous Hat, and myself sporting a blue "H" in the middle of my forehead. It's much easier to host a party when you have a hologram do it for you, I must say. Tip 'o the hat to Dan for the easiest costume ever, transferred to moi from his very own forehead, I do believe. It sure made a lot of people smile and chuckle and make clever comments that resulted in further emotive displays in the smiling-chuckling sort of range.
