Science Fiction Oral History Association seeking members and volunteers

Hi all! (copied from email to the Stilyagi club)

I wanted to write to remind folks that Michigan is the international center of operations for the Science Fiction Oral History Association (SFOHA). This is a 30-year-old group that records, collects, reproduces and shares audio and video recordings of science fiction and fantasy events - speeches, interviews, panels, discussions, performances, etc, both fannish and professional.

We are actively seeking volunteers here and elsewhere to record science fiction conventions and also to join the group (and the Board) and help manage the archive collection, the digitizing process, the website (currently woefully out of date - www.sfoha.org) and the catalog, not to mention the process of publicizing the group to other areas, groups, and conventions. We have many exciting projects on the board and in the meantime, history is going by uncaptured!

All you have to do is listen to some of the greats that we have in our archives to appreciate the value of what the group does and has done over the past 30 years. With the loss of Howard DeVore, who was one of our staunchest members and a treasured connection to the past, we are feeling ever so aware of the value of preserving the stories and personalities of fandom as best we can.

If you are interested in being part of SFOHA, whether by recording panels at cons you attend or by helping with website or catalog programming, or publicity and outreach, or whatever, please drop me a note at akgmurphy@gmail.com or give me a buzz at 734-996-9017.
