hugs and kisses debate...

Laura and I have a debate going about xo, which she has currently embodied in a poll on her LJ.

The crux of the matter is the question: when you sign a letter "xx" have you just signed it "kisses" or "hugs"?

X's and O's

Well an X could be two people meeting at a point > and < ie their pursed lips ready to kiss and an O could represent two people hugging and forming an O
rather like combining a ( and a )to show a hug coming together.

I think maybe it means "Rated XX" for eXtremely naughty. (;

X is a kiss, O is a hug.

I always thought O was a hug, because your arms go around, and X was a kiss, since your lips pucker up.

I've been thinking that since I was a little kid. I wonder how we get these ideas?

And what does it mean when the X and the O are on top of each other?

… or if there's an O with only half an X on top, thusly: Ø ?

Oh, I guess the latter would be a "No Hugging Zone". Right?

I've always thought 'X' was a kiss as well. This may be one of those questions like "flapjack or pancake?". :-)

I usually sign mine xxoo (kisses and hugs).
