aaaand...

even the Red Crossisn't being allowed into New Orleans.


This is an organization that is permitted to set up field hospitals in the middle of wars. And our military isn't letting them into a suffering US city.

I don't know what to say. I'm getting really frustrated here.

Sheltering people within N.O. right now is probably a bad idea -- it needs to be emptied as is happening now. It will be weeks and months before any part of it is suitable for living again. The Red Cross didn't operate any shelters within the New Orleans area before the storm because of the possibility of what we're seeing now. As the Red Cross says, they are neither a search and rescue organization nor the national guard, and there have been huge safety issues thus far. The risk of RC volunteers getting seriously hurt or killed is just too great.
