usability of trash cans

Interesting usability side effect of the new robotic trash cans that have been distributed around Ann Arbor...

I can no longer tell by looking down my street whether or not the garbage truck has already been there.

In what way are these trash cans robotic? Do they take themselves to the curb? If so, I hope they have big stompy legs and not little efficient wheels.

*grin*

no, these are robotic in that they are designed to couple with the trash truck so that it can lift them robotically instead of a person. I haven't seen it happen, so I can't give any more of a description than that. They have wheels, but they are relatively big wheels...

Oh, what a letdown. ;-) I guess we have the same robotic trashcans in my new neighborhood.

Here's hoping they get robotic legs of some kind in the forseeable future. Actually, this makes me think of a really stupid halloween costume idea. :)
